A man from Modesto, California, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning after firing his gun at a funeral service, causing a momentary panic and prompting a brief lockdown at a nearby school in Turlock. The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Yacoub, aged 69, was arrested by the Turlock Police Department on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm.

Gunshots Disrupt Funeral Service

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. when the Turlock Police Department received a distress call from an armed security guard stationed at Turlock Memorial Park located at 575 N. Soderquist Dr. The guard reported that a man had fired multiple shots into the air, alarming the mourners attending the funeral service. The close proximity of the gunshots to the gathering caused immediate concern and panic among those present.

Swift Action by Police Department

Upon receiving the call, multiple officers were dispatched to the scene, and the security guard provided them with a detailed description of the suspect as well as the vehicle he fled in. Turlock Police Department spokeswoman, Dominique Sanchez, commended the guard for his prompt response and valuable information, which aided in the swift apprehension of the suspect.

With the description and vehicle information in hand, officers quickly located the suspect’s vehicle in close proximity. Employing cautionary measures, the officers conducted a high-risk stop, apprehending Yacoub at gunpoint and placing him in handcuffs, ensuring the safety of all involved.
