Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) has brought charges against a 25-year-old individual named Hanika for multiple offenses, including felony theft and possession of firearms by a prohibited person.

The incident unfolded at the parking lot of the Microtel Inn and Suites located at North 25th and Fairfield streets. LPD officers were alerted to be on the lookout for Hanika, who was known to be driving an orange Jeep Wrangler. Hanika had a federal warrant for a probation violation related to weapon possession and was also a suspect in a theft involving several firearms and ammunition. Chief Michon Morrow of the LPD provided details, stating that around 12:20 p.m., an officer spotted the orange Jeep and called for backup. The situation took a dangerous turn when Hanika reportedly reversed and rammed the marked LPD cruiser twice before attempting to hit an officer with his vehicle.

In response to the immediate threat, Officer Nicholas Vest, a seven-year veteran in law enforcement, discharged his weapon at the vehicle, hitting Hanika. Photos from the scene depict a marked LPD cruiser parked behind Hanika’s vehicle, with an officer approaching the driver’s side window. Another photo shows the aftermath of the shooting, with the Jeep next to a building.

Unfortunately, another disturbing incident occurred during the event. Hanika’s 39-year-old female passenger was seriously injured after being run over by Hanika as she exited the Jeep. The woman’s identity has not been released, but Chief Morrow stated that she suffered severe, life-altering injuries. Employees from a nearby business came to her aid and helped rescue her from underneath the vehicle.

Hanika sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital before being booked into jail. He has previously faced charges of first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault on an officer, use of a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon.
