Drunk Man Stabs Toddler Son and Neighbour to Death in Nabarangpur

UMERKOTE: The peaceful village of Gujumapadar in Nabarangpur’s Papdahandi block was rocked by a horrifying incident on Friday morning. A 29-year-old man, identified as Radha Santa, allegedly stabbed his two-year-old son and a 57-year-old female neighbour to death. The deceased victims were identified as Radha’s toddler son, Bibe Santa, and the neighbour, Janai Santa. The shocking murders took place at approximately 8 am, sending shockwaves throughout the community.

According to sources, the tragedy unfolded after Radha Santa, in a drunken state, engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Malati, over a trivial matter. Enraged, Radha grabbed a knife and attempted to attack his wife, who managed to escape in fear for her life.
Mad with anger, Radha then turned his aggression towards his defenseless toddler son, mercilessly stabbing him with the knife. Janai Santa, who happened to be passing by, witnessed this ghastly act and tried to intervene to save the child. Tragically, she too fell victim to Radha’s violent outburst and was fatally stabbed. Both Bibe Santa and Janai Santa lost their lives on the spot, leaving the entire community in shock and mourning.
News of the incident quickly spread throughout the village, prompting some villagers to rush to the scene. Outraged by the horrific act, they apprehended Radha Santa and subjected him to a severe beating before restraining him with a rope. The assault left Radha with injuries to his head and limbs.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the police promptly arrived at the village and managed to rescue Radha from the enraged villagers. He was immediately taken to the Papdahandi Community Health Centre for medical treatment and later transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Nabarangpur. However, due to his deteriorating condition, he had to be further shifted to Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.

A scientific team was dispatched to the crime scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The bodies of the two deceased victims were seized and sent to the hospital for postmortem examinations, aiming to gather crucial evidence.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Janai Santa’s son, Simanchal Santa, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Maidalpur police station. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case, and an ongoing investigation is underway to uncover the full details surrounding this horrifying incident, stated Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Papdahandi, Aditya Sen.
As the community grapples with the shock and grief caused by this senseless act of violence, authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served and to provide support to the affected families.

Sources said Radha in an inebriated state picked up a quarrel with his wife Malati over a trivial issue in the morning. In a fit of rage, the accused grabbed a knife and tried to attack his wife. A terrified Malati ran out of the house to save herself.

As the news about the incident spread, some villagers rushed to the spot and caught hold of Radha. They thrashed him mercilessly before tying him with a rope. The accused sustained injuries on his head and limbs in the assault.
On being informed, police reached the village and rescued Radha from the clutches of irate villagers. He was rushed to Papdahandi community health centre and later taken to the district headquarters hospital, Nabarangpur. Subsequently, he was shifted to Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital, Koraput after his condition deteriorated.
A scientific team was also sent to the crime scene for investigation. Bodies of the two deceased were seized and sent to the hospital for postmortem.
