Double Murder Shakes Nabarangpur District: Man Kills Two-Year-Old Son and Elderly Woman

Papadahandi/Maidalpur: The peaceful village of Gujumapadar, nestled in the heart of Nabarangpur district, was left in shock and disbelief as a horrifying double murder unfolded on Friday. The accused, identified as Radha Santa, allegedly brutally killed his own two-year-old son, Baby Santa, and a kind-hearted elderly woman, Janei Santa, who resided in the neighbourhood. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Maidalpur police limits and Papadahandi block.

While the exact motive behind this heinous crime is yet to be determined, the tragedy sent shockwaves throughout the community. Police sources revealed that Radha Santa repeatedly hacked his innocent son to death. When Janei Santa courageously tried to intervene and protect the helpless child, she, too, fell victim to the attacker’s merciless assault.

The enraged villagers, upon learning of this grisly act, swiftly captured Radha and unleashed their fury upon him. The accused faced a severe beating at the hands of the incensed mob. Papadahandi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aditya Sen, Inspector In-Charge Deepak Jena, and other police officials promptly responded to the distress call and managed to apprehend the accused.

A scientific team was immediately dispatched to the crime scene, initiating a thorough investigation into this shocking incident that has left the community devastated. Eyewitnesses reported that Radha Santa had been seen wandering aimlessly around the village earlier that fateful morning, following a heated argument with his wife. In a fit of rage, he chased after her with a deadly weapon, forcing her to flee for her life, leaving their innocent toddler behind.

Left alone and vulnerable, the defenceless child became the target of Radha’s uncontrollable wrath. He unleashed a savage attack, hacking his own son to death, staining the serene surroundings with an unimaginable tragedy. The elderly neighbour, Janei Santa, hearing the commotion, rushed to the scene in a valiant attempt to rescue the innocent child. However, her selfless act of bravery met with the same horrifying fate, as Radha Santa turned his weapon on her, silencing her compassionate heart forever.

Tragically, both Baby Santa and Janei Santa lost their lives on the spot, leaving the entire village in a state of shock and grief. In a twisted turn of events, Radha Santa, overwhelmed by the collective anger of the community, suffered severe injuries as the enraged villagers took matters into their own hands. They relentlessly beat the accused, leaving him in a critical condition.

Rushed by the villagers to the Papadahandi hospital, Radha Santa’s deteriorating state necessitated his transfer to the Nabarangpur DHH. However, the accused’s injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed to the consequences of his own violent actions on Friday evening.

Following a complaint filed by Janei Santa’s son, Seemanchal, a case (154/23) has been registered, and the police have taken custody of all the bodies for post-mortem examination. The investigation into this horrific incident continues, as the community grapples with the profound loss and seeks answers to the unanswerable.
