The victim, identified as N Maniyammal, had been residing alone for the past seven years after her husband passed away. She had rented three properties in the locality. On Wednesday evening, Maniyammal’s neighbors grew suspicious when they noticed her lying unconscious through the window. They immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. Unfortunately, upon breaking open the door, they discovered that Maniyammal had already succumbed to her injuries. Her body was sent to the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.

Upon further investigation, Maniyammal’s daughter, S Saraswathi, noticed that her mother’s three-gram gold nose ring was missing. This led to the registration of a case against unidentified individuals under sections 302 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code. The police collected CCTV camera footage from the locality, which helped them identify the culprits.

During questioning, Senthilkumar confessed to staying at the elderly woman’s residence last year before moving to another area. He admitted that he believed Maniyammal had a substantial amount of money and gold at home, which prompted him to plan a robbery. He enlisted the help of his friends, Pothiraj and Sathish, and together they went to Maniyammal’s house. When she tried to raise an alarm, they strangled her to death using a mobile phone charger’s wire. However, they were unable to find any valuables in the house except for the gold nose ring, which they stole before making their escape.

All three suspects have been remanded in judicial custody and will face trial for their crimes.
