The accident occurred on September 6, 2022, when Edwards lost control of his mother’s Nissan Navara and collided with a tree in Buxton, driving at a speed of approximately 117.9km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The collision with the tree caused the ute to hit a second tree and split in half, resulting in the tragic deaths of the victims. Prior to the crash, Edwards had been driving at speeds of up to 147km/h.

Disturbingly, Edwards had also filmed himself swerving the car from side to side while driving at approximately 90km/h, with loud music playing. One of his passengers warned him, “We’re going to spin out cuz!”

After climbing out of the wreckage of the Nissan Navara that crashed into two trees, Edwards was heard saying, “I’m gonna go to jail.” He pleaded, “I can’t go to jail. I don’t want to go to jail.” The families of the victims expressed the devastating loss they have suffered.

As a result, Tyrell Edwards has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, with a non-parole period of seven years. The family members of the victims were present in the New South Wales district court at Campbelltown during the sentencing.
