Accident – Death – Obituary News : Teenagers X and Y have been accused of the murder of Brianna Ghey, a 16-year-old girl who was stabbed 28 times in Linear Park in Culcheth, Cheshire, on 11 February. X, a girl, was arrested a day after the incident, while Y, a boy, was also taken into custody. Both defendants, who were 15 at the time of the murder but are now 16, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, jurors were shown body-worn camera footage from police officers who arrested X and Y. The footage revealed that X asked the arresting officer if she was being arrested because she was the “last person to see [Brianna] alive”. X’s mother had contacted the police after X and Y were seen with Brianna on the day of her death. According to X’s mother, Brianna had left with a 17-year-old boy from Manchester who owned a car.

Two and a half hours after X’s mother made the call, both defendants were arrested at their respective homes by Cheshire Police officers wearing balaclavas and body armor. In the footage, X can be seen standing on the landing as PC Chris Rigby informs her that she is under suspicion for the murder of Brianna Ghey. X is then cautioned and handcuffed, with one officer noting her small wrists. X is asked for her mobile phone and her PIN, and she nods when asked if she understands what is happening. She shakes her head when asked if she has been arrested before. X is then told that she will be taken in for questioning, and arrangements are made for a parent to accompany her due to her age.

During the arrest of Y, he can be seen kneeling on the landing outside his bedroom as officers handcuff him. Y tells them, “I can explain,” but is informed that he is being arrested for murder and will be taken in for questioning.

The trial has revealed disturbing details about the defendants. The court heard that X and Y had a fixation with torture, violence, and death, and had a “kill list” of other potential victims. A “murder plan” targeting Brianna was discovered in X’s bedroom, and X had posted a tribute to Brianna on social media after her death. Additionally, X had an interest in serial killers.

Earlier in the trial, the jury was shown footage of Y taking the bus home on the day of the stabbing. He can be seen with his hood up and his sleeves covering his hands. Y’s web history from that afternoon revealed searches for breathing exercises for stress and getting help for anxiety.
