Israeli Civilian Yuval Doron Castleman Dies from Injuries in Shooting Attack

Tel Aviv [Israel], December 1 (ANI/TPS): An Israeli civilian who bravely defended commuters during a Thursday morning shooting attack has tragically lost his life due to the injuries sustained. Yuval Doron Castleman, a 37-year-old attorney, was waiting at a bus stop near Jerusalem when two Palestinian terrorists arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on rush-hour commuters.

Castleman, along with two off-duty soldiers, heroically neutralized the terrorists, but tragically Castleman himself was wounded in the process. Regrettably, his injuries proved fatal, bringing the death toll from the attack to four.

The victims of this heinous act of terror include 73-year-old Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, a respected judge in the rabbinical court in Ashdod, Hanna Ifergan, a 67-year-old principal of a girl’s school in Beit Shemesh, and 24-year-old Livia Dickman from Jerusalem. Additionally, five other victims remain hospitalized, fighting for their lives.

The two terrorists responsible for this senseless act have been identified as Murad Nemer and his brother, Ibrahim, both residents of eastern Jerusalem. Both in their 30s, the brothers were associated with Hamas and had previously served time in prison for their involvement in terrorist activities. The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) revealed that Murad had served a ten-year sentence from 2010 to 2020 for planning attacks under the guidance of terror commanders in Gaza.

Hamas, the extremist organization, has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on Telegram. In response, police officials announced that the Nemers’ residence had been marked for demolition on Thursday night. Increased patrols have also been implemented in the city due to the escalating conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Minister-without-Portfolio Benny Gantz, a member of the War Cabinet, emphasized that this attack further strengthens Israel’s determination to continue its fight against Hamas in Gaza. Gantz stated, “This terror attack is further proof of our obligation to continue to fight with strength and determination against murderous terrorism, which threatens our citizens. In Jerusalem, Gaza, in Judea and Samaria, and everywhere.”

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir highlighted the need to ease gun permit restrictions in light of this incident. He noted that requests for gun licenses have surged since Hamas’s massacre on October 7. Ben-Gvir stated, “This event proves once again how much we must not show weakness, how much we should talk to Hamas only through the intentions, only through the war. But this event illustrates another thing, how important the policy of distributing weapons is; despite the criticism of all kinds of parties, I will continue this policy of handing out weapons everywhere, both to emergency rooms and to civilians. Weapons save lives, we see it time after time, wherever there are weapons, citizens, policemen, and soldiers save lives.
