Corbin Hippensteel Charged with Murder in Columbus Shooting

Accident – Death – Obituary News : COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred in late November in Columbus. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Corbin Hippensteel, is now facing one count of murder in relation to the incident that took place on Joseph Cox Court.

According to court documents filed on Friday, the Columbus Police Department received a report of shots fired on November 27 in the 2600 block of Joseph Cox Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man, later identified as 54-year-old Alejandro Flores, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Sadly, Flores was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The investigation took a significant turn when a family member of Hippensteel contacted the authorities and informed them that Hippensteel had shot and killed someone in their home. Based on this information, officers were able to locate and apprehend Hippensteel shortly after the 911 call. However, at the time of his arrest, Hippensteel did not have a firearm in his possession.

During subsequent interviews, the family member revealed that Hippensteel had been agitated and upset throughout the day. On the day of the incident, Hippensteel’s friend, later identified as Flores, visited their home, and they engaged in a conversation. According to the family member, there was no evidence of an argument between Hippensteel and Flores. However, the family member reported that Hippensteel suddenly threatened to shoot Flores in the head and proceeded to point a revolver at him.

The family member then heard a “click” sound, indicating that the trigger had been pulled. In response, the family member confronted Hippensteel, expressing their disapproval of him possessing a gun. As they approached Hippensteel, a shot was fired, striking Flores. Frightened, the family member fled from the scene and heard additional gunshots before promptly contacting emergency services.

During the subsequent search of the premises, law enforcement discovered Flores’ lifeless body, along with a Heritage Rough Rider .22 caliber revolver containing empty shell casings and unused rounds. Additionally, ammunition was found within the residence. Further investigation led police to a campsite where Hippensteel was believed to have been staying. Here, investigators found belongings that they believed belonged to Hippensteel, as well as additional .22 caliber ammunition similar to the type found at the crime scene.

The Bartholomew Circuit Court is currently handling the case, which remains pending. In the meantime, Hippensteel is being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail.
