A young individual has been apprehended in relation to the recent series of threats directed towards a high school in Thunder Bay. Throughout the week, multiple educational institutions operated by the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board were targeted by these threats.

On Monday, St. Patrick High School received a menacing message, prompting the closure of the south-side campus on Tuesday. Similarly, St. Ignatius School received a threat that led to initial plans for closure on Wednesday. However, diligent efforts by the police cleared the high school on Tuesday evening, ensuring normal classes resumed on Wednesday.

Adding to the distressing situation, the board was made aware of hateful graffiti found on the portable doors of Holy Family School on Wednesday morning. As a precautionary measure, the elementary school was placed in a hold and secure mode while the police thoroughly investigated the incident to ensure the absence of any credible threat.

In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities have taken a young person into custody in connection with the threat made to St. Ignatius School. The threat consisted of menacing messages found inscribed on a wall within the north-side high school premises. The individual has been charged with mischief under $5,000 as well as making threats.

Another incident under investigation involved an anonymous call threatening Pope John Paul II School, which took place on November 21. Following investigations, an 11-year-old youth was identified as the responsible party for the call. Due to the youth’s age, the school and child services are currently conducting follow-up procedures.
