New Delhi, December 1, 2021 (PTI) – In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police apprehended a 32-year-old burglar from the Sarita Vihar area of southeast Delhi. The accused, identified as Mohammad Saidul, was found in possession of stolen articles worth a staggering Rs 13 lakh, according to authorities. This arrest is expected to unravel a series of unsolved cases that have plagued the region in recent months.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Saidul, a resident of Sarita Vihar, has an extensive criminal record, having been involved in 15 previous criminal cases. The police were alerted to his activities after a complaint was lodged on November 16 by a woman who had returned from an outstation wedding to find her valuables missing. The incident occurred in the Jamia Nagar area, prompting the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) and initiate a thorough investigation.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav shed light on the operation, stating, “Upon receiving the complaint, we meticulously analyzed the CCTV footage, which subsequently led to the identification of the accused. Our team swiftly set up a trap, resulting in the successful arrest of Saidul.”

During interrogation, Saidul confessed to being a drug addict and revealed his modus operandi. He and his associates would target residential flats, focusing on afternoon hours when residents were away from their homes. Under the cover of darkness, they would execute their meticulously planned burglaries. The accused’s arrest has provided a significant breakthrough in two cases, while also shedding light on his involvement in a total of 15 criminal cases related to house burglary, theft, and violations of the Arms Act.

Special CP Yadav stressed the importance of the arrest, stating, “We have been able to recover a substantial amount of stolen goods, including five laptops, 60 grams of gold jewellery, 11 mobile phones, 15 wrist watches, bridal clothes, and various other expensive items. Furthermore, we have seized the motorcycle and tools that were used in the commission of these crimes.” The recovered items are estimated to be worth Rs 13 lakh.
