CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a devastating incident, a woman lost her life after being struck by a car while attempting to cross The Plaza in east Charlotte during the early hours of Thursday morning, as confirmed by local authorities.

The unfortunate collision occurred shortly after midnight in the 2800 block of The Plaza, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Upon reaching the scene, responding officers discovered the victim, identified as 58-year-old Lisa Pettis, lying on the road with severe injuries. Emergency medical services were immediately called, and Pettis was swiftly transported to Atrium Health Main. However, despite the efforts of medical professionals, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigations conducted by the CMPD revealed that Pettis was attempting to cross The Plaza when she was struck by a 2021 Hyundai Kona. Tragically, she was not utilizing a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Hyundai, who remained at the scene, was wearing a seatbelt during the collision and showed no signs of impairment, as determined by the police.
