Milwaukee Man Charged with First-Degree Intentional Homicide for Thanksgiving Shooting: Victim Identified as Al’Jevon Wilkins

Accident – Death – Obituary News : MILWAUKEE – A Milwaukee resident, Elijah Dent, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with a tragic Thanksgiving shooting. The incident took place near 24th and Wells, where Dent allegedly killed 17-year-old Al’Jevon Wilkins.

According to the criminal complaint, the authorities received a distressing 911 call from a female shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 23. During the call, the female became hysterical, crying and hyperventilating, while a male voice in the background was heard saying, “you don’t have to tell nobody I did that.”

Upon arriving at the scene, the first two officers discovered Wilkins on a futon with a gunshot wound to the head. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on-site. The autopsy later revealed that he had suffered two gunshot wounds to the head, both fired at close range.

Detectives investigating the case spoke to a resident of the apartment where Wilkins was found dead. The resident informed them that the female who called 911 was his girlfriend’s sister. He further stated that she had been sleeping on his futon with someone else that morning. The resident had left the apartment with another individual to go to a nearby corner store, leaving the door unlocked. Upon their return, they found the female crying in the doorway and the person she had been with bleeding on the futon.

In a series of interviews with investigators, the female provided multiple statements about the incident. She claimed that she had awoken on the futon with Wilkins, whom she considered her boyfriend when she saw a figure dressed in black standing over them. She identified the person as her ex-boyfriend, Elijah Dent. According to her account, Dent shot Wilkins and then pointed the gun at her with a disturbing expression on his face.

The female then dialed 911, and while on the phone, Dent allegedly cocked his gun and placed it against his own head. He questioned whether she would “tell on him” before fleeing the scene, leaving her traumatized and in shock.

Dent was eventually apprehended the following day at an apartment near Teutonia and Custer. Police found him hiding in a closet. He made his initial court appearance on November 29, and a cash bond of $250,000 was set for his release.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Milwaukee community.
