KUALA LUMPUR: A European tourist has been apprehended by authorities after allegedly assaulting a foreign woman at a local café in the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur. The incident took place on Sunday, November 26, at approximately 1:30 pm, according to the Dang Wangi Officer-in-Charge of Police District (OCPD), Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya.

The victim, a 30-year-old accountant hailing from Jordan, was peacefully purchasing a beverage at a café situated along Jalan Cendana when she was unexpectedly approached by an unknown man. Without any provocation, the assailant suddenly unleashed a forceful punch to the victim’s stomach, leaving her in excruciating pain. To make matters worse, he menacingly threatened to inflict further harm upon her, creating an atmosphere of fear and unease.
Following the disturbing incident, the victim promptly lodged a police report on the same day. Authorities immediately initiated investigations into the matter, charging the suspect with criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing bodily harm. The alleged assailant, a 48-year-old European tourist, was swiftly identified and subsequently apprehended by law enforcement officials on the day of the assault itself.
The suspect has since been remanded for a period of four days, ensuring his availability for further questioning and judicial proceedings. It is anticipated that he will face charges in court on Friday, December 1, in relation to his alleged actions. The swift response from the authorities, coupled with the victim’s courage in reporting the incident, highlights the commitment of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors alike.
In the wake of the assault, a message along with photographs of the accused individual began circulating on popular messaging platform WhatsApp, serving as a warning to hoteliers and the wider community about the unruly behavior exhibited by the tourist. The message not only accused the man of assault but also labeled him as abusive and an alcoholic.
