The Coroner’s Office confirmed that Lewis’ cause of death was consistent with strangulation, indicating a homicide. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is currently conducting an investigation into the case.

This shocking discovery has left Lake County investigators with more questions than answers. The woman’s body was found abandoned on the side of a road in Old Mill Creek during the early hours of the morning.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may shed light on this disturbing incident. “We’re thoroughly examining missing persons reports within Lake County. If none are found, we will expand our search to surrounding counties and states,” said Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Janet Whitmore, a motorist who was heading to work in the early morning darkness, made the initial discovery. While driving with her headlights on, she noticed an unusual object on the side of the road. “At first, I couldn’t make out what it was. It had a peculiar shape, and I wondered if it was just a pile of garbage or perhaps a dead deer,” Whitmore recounted. “Without investigating further, I continued on my way.”

However, it wasn’t until several hours later, in daylight, that multiple drivers contacted emergency services to report the distressing find. “I was stunned and a little freaked out by the realization that what I saw earlier was an actual body,” Whitmore expressed.

Deputy Chief Covelli emphasized that his department is leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to gather more information. The woman’s body was partially concealed by a garbage bag when it was found, and investigators discovered trauma to her face.

Following an autopsy, authorities confirmed that her death was a result of a homicide. However, they have not released further details regarding the cause of death or the victim’s identity. The Lake County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff’s Office are currently working to locate the victim’s family.

As the investigation into this grim discovery continues, Deputy Chief Covelli stated that their focus is now on identifying the victim, determining her origin, understanding her activities, and ultimately identifying and holding the perpetrator accountable.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the victim. Investigators have stated that there are no distinct markings or tattoos on the woman’s body that could aid in the identification process. They are urging anyone with surveillance footage or information to come forward. Additionally, the authorities plan to utilize license plate readers in the area to generate leads.

Officials have yet to establish when the body was left on the roadside. However, based on Whitmore’s account, it is believed to have occurred before 3 a.m. “I hope that by narrowing down the timeframe, someone with surveillance footage will come forward,” Whitmore expressed.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
