A Wareham man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing his father on Monday afternoon. Robert Gomes III appeared in Wareham District Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including murder, firearm armed assault to murder a person over 60, assault and battery with a firearm, and other gun-related charges, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. He was ordered to be held without bail.

The incident occurred at 1146 Main St in Wareham. Wareham police received several 911 calls at around 3:35 p.m. reporting a shooting at the location. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a man outside the back porch steps of the house with gunshot wounds to his chest. The victim, identified as 61-year-old Robert Gomes Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators recovered shell casings and a black duffel bag containing a “ghost gun” with an obliterated serial number at the scene. As a result, they obtained an arrest warrant for the victim’s son, Robert Gomes III, and took him into custody.

During his arraignment, Gomes III pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court set his next appearance for December 27.
