Jesus Torres, 57, Found Dead in El Paso County Jail Annex: 6 Inmates Charged with Homicide

Accident – Death – Obituary News : EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the tragic death of an inmate at the El Paso County Jail Annex, which is being treated as a homicide. In a shocking turn of events, six other inmates have now been charged in connection with the incident that occurred on Monday, November 27.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, detention officers made a distressing discovery when they found an inmate unresponsive inside his cell. Immediate medical attention was provided to the inmate, but unfortunately, it was determined that he had passed away.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit and Texas Rangers were promptly called in to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.

The deceased inmate has been identified as 57-year-old Jesus Torres, who was being held at the jail on probation violations for charges including possession of a controlled substance and human smuggling. Torres’ death has sent shockwaves through the facility, raising concerns about the safety and security of inmates in custody.

After intensive detective work, the Sheriff’s Office identified six inmates who were assigned to the same cellblock and believes they are responsible for the death of Torres. As a result, warrants were obtained for these six individuals, and they have since been rebooked on additional charges.

1. Manuel Alejandro Vargas, 31, has been charged with murder and is being held on a bond of $750,000. Vargas was initially booked on charges of smuggling of persons, evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, and aggravated assault against a public servant by the Department of Public Safety.

2. Juan Alberto Ortiz, 18, is facing a charge of capital murder with a bond set at $1,000,000.

3. George Lopez, 23, has been charged with murder and is being held on a bond of $750,000.

4. Jesus Adrian Rocha, 38, is facing a murder charge with a bond set at $750,000. Rocha was originally booked on charges of manufacturing and delivering controlled substances, specifically methamphetamine.

5. Jovani Dionicio Ramos, 29, has been charged with murder and is being held on a bond of $750,000. Ramos was initially booked for a probation violation related to smuggling of persons.

6. Christian Carrillo, 25, is facing a murder charge with a bond set at $750,000. Carrillo was originally booked for smuggling of persons.

Given the gravity of the situation and concerns regarding potential retaliation, jail administrators from both the Downtown Facility and the Jail Annex are taking necessary precautions. They are diligently working on separating inmates, including placing certain individuals in individual “lock-down” cells to ensure the safety and security of all inmates in light of this tragic homicide.
