The teacher, identified as Kevin Rodriquez-Febus, 23, was taken into custody following a tip received by the police department. The tip alleged a romantic involvement between Rodriquez-Febus and a student at Haines City High School.

During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Rodriquez-Febus and the student had been engaged in a dating relationship since early 2023. The student disclosed that Rodriquez-Febus initially approached her through an online messaging app.

Moreover, the student revealed that she and Rodriquez-Febus had met at various locations throughout the state for their dates. This alarming information raised concerns about the extent of their relationship and the potential impact it may have had on the student’s well-being.

Upon questioning, Rodriquez-Febus admitted to being in love with the student and considering himself her boyfriend. Detectives also uncovered several instances of inappropriate behavior between the teacher and the student, further solidifying the severity of the situation.

“We are thankful to the witness who spoke up on behalf of the victim, as this inappropriate relationship would have likely continued,” said Haines City Police Chief Greg Goreck. “Based on the initial contact between the victim and the suspect taking place online, I would encourage parents to always be mindful of who their children are communicating with and the nature of their conversations.”

As a result of his actions, Rodriquez-Febus now faces charges of offenses against students by authority figures, a second-degree felony. The local community is urged to come forward with any additional information regarding this case or potential victims by contacting the police at (863) 421-3636.
