The police have arrested Khatunwas, who hails from the Chakdah region of West Bengal’s Nadia district. She was produced before a local court following her arrest, as confirmed by the Chakdah police.

The incident came to light when the police discovered the body of an unidentified man in Ganguly Para at Madanpur railway station on Saturday. The victim, later identified as Akhlaque Alam, a resident of Jamshedpur’s Pahal More, had succumbed to gunshot wounds. The police immediately registered a murder case and informed Alam’s relatives about his untimely demise.

Investigations into the case led the police to Khatunwas, who resides in Chakdah’s Jatrapur with her father. According to the police, Khatunwas and Alam had been in a relationship for the past four years. However, Khatunwas had been wanting to end the relationship, while Alam was persistent in continuing it, leading to constant arguments between them.

On the fateful day, Khatunwas rode a bike to meet Alam near a local club close to the Madanpur railway station. The accused later admitted in her confession that she shot Alam during their meeting. The police suspect the involvement of at least one accomplice in helping Khatunwas acquire the gun and the bike used in the crime. However, the accused did not reveal any details regarding these aspects.

“The accused knows how to ride a bike, and according to the locals, she was also involved in drug use,” stated Biman Mirdha, the in-charge of Chakdah police station. The investigation is still ongoing, and the police are trying to gather more evidence to establish the complete sequence of events.

This incident is not the first of its kind in the region. Last month, another 20-year-old woman in Jharkhand allegedly killed her boyfriend for refusing to marry her. The accused, identified as Anjali Kumar, brutally hacked her 24-year-old boyfriend Dharmen Oraon to death with an axe while he was asleep. Kumar had planned the murder after her proposal for marriage was rejected by Oraon.

The police managed to solve the case within 48 hours, gathering the necessary evidence and apprehending the accused.

The rise in such incidents of domestic violence and relationship-related crimes is a matter of concern. The authorities need to ensure the safety and security of individuals by creating awareness about healthy relationships and providing support to those facing difficulties in their personal lives.
