South St. Paul Shooting Claims Life of Avontae Troy King: Two Men Charged with Second-Degree Murder

Andrew Fisher, a 20-year-old resident of Cambridge, and Tre Manuel Iglesias, a 22-year-old from St. Paul, are both facing two felony counts of second-degree murder, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.

Authorities were alerted to the incident on the 400 block of 3rd Avenue South last Friday at approximately 4:50 p.m. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered a man lying on the ground near the road’s shoulder. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Avontae Troy King from South St. Paul, had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Despite efforts to save him, King succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena expressed her condolences to King’s family, friends, and loved ones, acknowledging the profound loss they have suffered. The community has been left in shock and mourning due to this senseless act of violence.

Later that day, Iglesias voluntarily approached law enforcement and provided information about his involvement in the incident, according to the complaint filed. Iglesias stated that Fisher shot the victim before both men escaped in Iglesias’ vehicle.

A witness, who is a friend of Iglesias, informed the police that Fisher mentioned shooting someone when they returned to Iglesias’ house after the incident, as stated in the complaint. This testimony strengthens the evidence against both defendants.

On Tuesday, Fisher and Iglesias made their initial appearance in court. Fisher’s bail was set at $1 million without conditions, while Iglesias’ bail was set at $750,000 without conditions. Their next court hearing is scheduled for December 12. If convicted, both individuals could face a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
