The Austin Police Department (APD) has made public the body camera footage depicting the fatal officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of Officer Jorge Pastore.

On November 11, an incident unfolded at 9308 Bernoulli Drive, prompting a 911 call. The caller, in a state of distress, pleaded for help, stating that she was being attacked by someone with a knife. The APD has now released a comprehensive timeline of events leading up to the shooting, shedding new light on the tragic incident.

According to authorities, the distress call was received at 2:49 a.m. on November 11 at the location mentioned above. Initial patrol officers, dressed in Austin police uniforms, promptly arrived at the scene at approximately 2:57 a.m. in response to the urgent 911 call titled “Shoot/Stab Hotshot.”

The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Nassar, had barricaded himself inside the residence, armed and holding two individuals hostage. In light of the dangerous situation, the APD initiated a SWAT callout.

At approximately 4:11 a.m., SWAT officers executed an emergency entry to rescue the hostages. Upon entering a back bedroom of the residence, Ahmed Nassar opened fire on the SWAT officers, compelling them to return fire in self-defense.

During the exchange of gunfire, at around 4:15 a.m., it was reported over the police radio that two officers had sustained gunshot wounds. Responding officers and ATCEMS Tactical Medics swiftly moved the injured officers to safety and provided immediate medical assistance.

Both officers were transported to a local hospital by ATCEMS, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, Officer Jorge “George” Pastore succumbed to his injuries.

The second officer, who was also wounded during the incident, was admitted to a local hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

Inside the residence, authorities discovered two additional victims with fatal injuries. The victims were identified as 63-year-old Eyman Elnemrnassar and 32-year-old Riad Nassar.

Ahmed Nassar, the suspect, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the gunfire exchange.

During the incident, three APD officers discharged their department-issued firearms:

  • The first officer involved has served with the department for eight years and eleven months.
  • The second officer involved has been with the department for eleven years and four months.
  • The third officer involved boasts a tenure of sixteen years and eleven months with the department.

In accordance with APD protocol, all three officers have been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

The APD will conduct two simultaneous investigations into the incident: a criminal investigation led by the APD Special Investigations Unit in collaboration with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, and an administrative investigation overseen by the APD Internal Affairs Unit with the Office of Police Oversight providing oversight.
