Man and Woman Arrested in Bartholomew County for Methamphetamine Possession

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. — A traffic stop in Bartholomew County on Sunday night led to the arrest of a man and a woman after police discovered over 20 grams of methamphetamine in their vehicle. The incident took place near N. State Road 9 and Midway Drive in the town of Hope around 11:30 p.m., according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy with the Sheriff’s Office initiated the traffic stop after noticing a vehicle with a fake license plate. Suspicious of potential criminal activity, the deputy decided to investigate further. The canine unit, Frizko, was brought in to conduct a free air sniff, during which he alerted the deputy to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Following the K9 alert, a thorough search of the vehicle was conducted. This search led to the discovery of approximately 22 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a highly addictive and illegal stimulant. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the findings.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 36-year-old Calvin Dampier, and his passenger, 36-year-old Jennifer Elgar, were immediately taken into custody. Both individuals are facing serious charges, including a level 2 felony for dealing in methamphetamine and a level 4 felony for possession of methamphetamine. Dampier also received a misdemeanor charge for driving while suspended, while Elgar faces an additional misdemeanor charge related to possession of drug paraphernalia.

As of now, both Dampier and Elgar are being held at the Bartholomew County Jail on a $75,000 bond. The authorities are taking these charges seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
