Khazar Elyassnia, the sister of Nima Momeni who is accused of killing tech entrepreneur Bob Lee, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and a hit-and-run incident. The San Francisco Police Department identified Elyassnia as the driver involved in a crash on Monday at Geary and Larkin streets in the Tenderloin area. Officers responded to the scene at around 11am and found Elyassnia along with witnesses.

Elyassnia was booked into San Francisco County Jail and is facing charges of driving under the influence, two counts of hit-and-run, failure to drive within the lane, and failure to provide insurance at the scene of an accident. Her brother Nima Momeni stands accused of stabbing Cash App founder Bob Lee in the heart with a four-inch black blade kitchen knife. Prosecutors believe that Momeni killed Lee after confronting him about his alleged sexual relationship with Elyassnia, who is married to prominent plastic surgeon Dr Dino Elyassnia.

According to the police statement, officers conducted a sobriety test and determined that Elyassnia was driving under the influence. The incident occurred on November 27, 2023, and Elyassnia was subsequently booked at San Francisco County Jail. It remains unclear whether she has been released on bail.

Elyassnia has been a consistent presence in court, supporting her brother since his arrest on April 13. Momeni has pleaded not guilty to killing Lee and could face 26 years to life if convicted. Surveillance footage captured Lee entering the Millennium Tower downtown, where Momeni’s sister resides with her husband. The video also shows Lee and Momeni leaving the building together in Momeni’s car shortly after 2am. Lee was later found bleeding in the Rincon Hill neighborhood and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

The alleged underground scene involving drugs and casual sex, in which Lee and Elyassnia are said to have participated, may be explored during the trial. Elyassnia could potentially appear as a witness. Momeni’s defense lawyer, Saam Zangeneh, argued against the portrayal of his client as a cold-blooded, premeditated killer. However, Judge Bruce Chan denied Momeni’s bail application on October 2.

During a hearing in July, Lee’s family listened to testimony from a police officer who attempted to resuscitate him after he was found with stab wounds. The evidence presented by Assistant District Attorney Omid Talai included photos of the knife allegedly used by Momeni in the attack. The trial could also feature testimony from a drug dealer, Jeremy Boivin, who allegedly sold drugs to Elyassnia on the day before Lee’s murder. Elyassnia’s husband, Dr Dino Elyassnia, may also be called as a witness.

The court heard from San Francisco police officer Cedric Hood, one of the officers who tried to save Lee’s life. Officer Hood discovered a silver knife with a black handle in a locked parking lot, which was later identified as a four-inch Joseph Joseph brand kitchen knife. Investigators also found drops of blood leading from the parking lot to the Portside apartment complex, where Lee was seen on video footage desperately seeking help.

Assistant DA Talai previously stated that analysis showed Momeni’s DNA on the handle of the knife and Lee’s DNA on the blade. Momeni’s defense attorneys claimed that the two men had a cordial relationship and that Momeni had no motive to kill Lee. However, prosecutors argue that Momeni planned the attack that led to Lee’s death on April 4.

Momeni is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday as the legal proceedings continue..
