Following a thorough investigation, the police revealed that the student had been riding on a school bus and suddenly jumped out of the back while the vehicle was still in motion. Eyewitnesses stated that the teenager utilized the emergency exit door as the bus proceeded along its afternoon route. The victim was identified as Alex Wilson, a student at Parkland High School.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools district, deeply saddened by the tragic incident, expressed their condolences. Although the district did not provide an updated comment on November 28, Superintendent Tricia McManus released a statement shortly after the incident occurred. “This is a heartbreaking situation,” she said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our student and the family.”

At the time of the incident, which took place just days before the Thanksgiving break, the district reportedly offered on-campus support to students affected by the traumatic event. Superintendent McManus acknowledged the profound impact the incident had on the student involved, their family, the students who were present on the bus, and the bus driver.

As of November 27, authorities continued to investigate the incident, which took place south of downtown Winston-Salem. The initial news release from the police did not indicate any suspicion of criminal activity.
