Delhi: In a shocking incident that has left a family devastated, a father and son were tragically electrocuted while attempting to repair a water tank motor at Commander Hospital in Vikas Nagar, Outer Delhi.

According to Vipin, Raman’s brother, their family’s financial situation forced Raman to take up plumbing despite having completed his studies up to Class X. Kunwar had been working as a plumber at the hospital for the past five years, earning approximately Rs 200 per visit. The family, residing in Mohan Garden, lives about 5 km away from the hospital.

The news of the tragic incident reached the family with a significant delay. Dhanpal, Kunwar’s elder brother, shared that they were only informed about the electrocution nearly five hours later, at around 7 pm. In response to the heartbreaking news, the family, accompanied by the bodies of their loved ones, staged a protest outside the hospital on Saturday evening, alleging negligence on the part of the hospital.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the family was devastated to learn about the electrocution hours after the incident occurred. Dhanpal, Kunwar’s elder brother, expressed his frustration and accused the hospital of negligence. The family demanded answers and justice, leading to their protest outside the hospital premises.

Vipin expressed his frustration, stating that the hospital authorities had not provided any explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the electrocution. Dhanpal also pointed fingers at the hospital management, highlighting their negligence. He emphasized that during repairs, it is standard practice to drain water from the tank, which was not done in this instance. Dhanpal demanded that the hospital take full responsibility for the tragic incident.

Kunwar and Raman were known as the go-to individuals whenever repairs were required at the hospital. On the fateful day, they received a distress call about a malfunctioning motor inside a 14-foot-deep water tank. Alongside Sarvesh Kumar, an electrical engineer, they entered the tank located in the basement to fix the motor. Shockingly, their lifeless bodies were discovered floating in the water approximately 20 minutes later by hospital staff.

The police promptly arrived at the scene and retrieved the bodies from the tank. A case has been registered against unknown persons under IPC section 304A, which pertains to causing death by negligence. DCP (Outer) Jimmy Chiram stated that the hospital owners would be questioned regarding the provision of safety kits during repairs and adherence to safety protocols. Engineers will also be consulted to determine the appropriate water level inside the tank during repair work.

Hospital authorities have remained unavailable for comment following the incident. Lakhan Singh Bharat, one of the hospital’s owners, expressed shock and confusion as the men involved were outsourced for the motor repair.
