LAKE CITY, FL – In a devastating turn of events, the Lake City Police Department responded to a report of gunshots on NW Long Street in the early hours of Sunday, November 26, 2023. According to a press release issued by the department, the incident occurred at 3:42 A.M., prompting a swift response from law enforcement officers.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 19-year-old male victim who had suffered a gunshot wound. Immediate first aid was administered by the responding officers, and the victim, identified as Nicholas Rashard Whitehead, born on June 6, 2004, was quickly transported to Lake City HCA Hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Whitehead tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The crime scene was promptly secured by officers, with support from deputies of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
