Mrs Oluwatosin Aina, a teacher in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state, reportedly dies after collapsing at Olokinne High School

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state – A tragic incident occurred at Olokinne High School in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state, where a teacher, Mrs Oluwatosin Aina, collapsed and passed away. The deceased, who was in her 50s, had sought permission to go to the hospital when she started feeling unwell but unfortunately died shortly after.

The news of Mrs Aina’s death has raised concerns about the impact of stress and the shortage of teachers on the health of educators. It is evident that teachers in Nigeria are facing immense pressure, which is taking a toll on their well-being.

Mrs Aina was rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Ijebu Igbo, where she was pronounced dead. According to reports, she was a Grade Level 14 officer teaching Christian Religious Knowledge.

A source revealed, “I heard that she started feeling uncomfortable after getting to the school and got permission from her Principal to go and treat herself but slumped beside her car. She was confirmed dead at the hospital she was rushed to.”

This incident highlights the alarming rate at which teachers are dying due to stress and the shortage of educators. A teacher in the area, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed concern over the limited number of teachers and the impact it has on their health.

In response to the tragedy, Felix Agbesanwa, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools in Ogun state, extended his condolences to Mrs Aina’s family. He acknowledged the challenges caused by the shortage of teachers and mentioned that the Ogun state government has recently employed 1000 OgunTeach interns to address the issue.

Agbesanwa appreciated the government’s efforts in addressing the shortage but urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to resolve other outstanding issues affecting teachers’ well-being, as promised.

In a related incident, a lecturer from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Osun state, Dr Ayo Ojediran, also tragically passed away in his office. The lecturer, who taught at the Department of Science And Technology Education, Faculty of Education, was found dead by his colleagues.

The deaths of Mrs Aina and Dr Ojediran shed light on the immense pressure and challenges faced by educators in Nigeria. It is crucial for the government and educational institutions to prioritize the well-being of teachers and address the issues affecting their health and job satisfaction.
