Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a shocking turn of events, Peter Antonacci, the Director of Florida’s Office of Election Crimes and Security, collapsed and died in the governor’s office on September 23, 2022. The news of his death was kept secret at the time, with authorities only stating that he died while at work in the Capitol building. However, newly released Florida Department of Law Enforcement records reveal that Antonacci collapsed and lay dead or dying in the hallway of the governor’s office for over 20 minutes before anyone noticed and came to his aid.

The records also indicate that Antonacci attended a contentious meeting in the governor’s office on the day of his death. The attendees included Secretary of State James “Cord” Byrd, his general counsel Bradley McVay, FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass, FDLE Chief of Staff Shane Desguin, FDLE director of executive investigations Scott McInerney, Antonacci’s deputy Scott Strauss, and several unidentified individuals. The agenda and details of the meeting have not been disclosed.

The FDLE reports state that video surveillance captured Antonacci leaving the conference room and staggering before collapsing in the hallway. FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass and Chief of Staff Shane Desguin initiated life-saving measures, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), but it was determined that no shock was needed. Emergency medical services arrived shortly thereafter, but Antonacci could not be revived.

The circumstances surrounding Antonacci’s death raise questions about whether quicker action could have saved his life. The FDLE reports do not mention Governor Ron DeSantis being present at the meeting or during the incident. Requests for public records about the meeting have yet to receive substantive responses.

The released FDLE records were heavily redacted, citing exemptions for security and fire safety information, as well as the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The identities of the meeting attendees and the reason for Antonacci’s prolonged discovery on the hallway floor remain unknown.
