The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) has identified Nicolas Candelaria as the victim of the shooting that took place on November 1 in the 500 block of Atlantic Avenue SW. According to APD’s investigation, Lanise Padilla, 23, and Richard Anderson, 24, are believed to have attempted to rob Candelaria during what was supposed to be a drug transaction.

According to APD, it is alleged that Anderson shot Candelaria three times as the victim made an attempt to reach for a gun. Following the shooting, Anderson is said to have taken the drugs involved and fled the scene.

Padilla, who had a murder warrant issued against her, was apprehended on Saturday morning when she was found driving a vehicle without a license plate. Authorities have impounded her vehicle as they believe it may have been involved in the homicide, sealing it for further investigation.

In a separate development, Anderson was located at a residence in the 1000 block of Marapi Street NW. Law enforcement took him into custody on Saturday night, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
