The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office reported the discovery of the body of Keith McKechnie, a 45-year-old Avon man who had been missing for over two months, in a well on Saturday night.

According to authorities, McKechnie was last seen leaving his residence at 34 East High St. on September 7. The Avon police officially reported him missing on November 22.

On November 25, Avon police, firefighters, and Massachusetts State Police initiated a search in the heavily wooded area surrounding McKechnie’s property, where he frequently roamed, as stated in a press release.

Authorities concentrated their search efforts on an old well on the property, despite having examined it previously. Eventually, they discovered a body inside the well, later confirmed to be that of Keith McKechnie by the district attorney’s office.

Following the discovery, McKechnie’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston for an autopsy, expected to conclude in the coming days. The autopsy aims to determine the cause of death, although no visible signs of physical harm were apparent, as stated by the office.

Expressing his condolences, District Attorney Morrissey said on Saturday evening, “Our thoughts are very much with the McKechnie family tonight. This is a very sad result.”
