According to recent reports, 53-year-old Kurt P. Villani and his wife Monica Villani were killed on November 22, 2023, when their 2022 Bentley hit a cement barrier and exploded near the Rainbow Bridge that connects the U.S. and Canada. They were traveling from Grand Island, New York, to a KISS concert in Toronto. The FBI Buffalo office has ruled out explosive materials and terrorism.

The incident occurred near the Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls, which serves as a prominent connection between the U.S. and Canada. The couple, both 53 years old and from Grand Island, New York, were driving their 2022 Bentley when it collided with a cement barrier on Niagara Street at considerable speed. The impact of the collision launched the vehicle into the air, resulting in a catastrophic explosion near the customs plaza. The car was completely destroyed and incinerated, with only the engine remaining. Witnesses reported that fragments of the vehicle were scattered across multiple booths.

One U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) worker sustained minor injuries but received immediate medical attention and has since been released. It is important to note that this tragic incident occurred on the U.S. side of the border.

Initial rumors speculated that the crash was a result of a terrorist or immigrant attack. However, the FBI Buffalo office has dispelled these rumors, stating that their investigation revealed no explosive materials and no terrorism nexus. Verden’s explanation suggests a plausible reason behind the vehicle’s explosion.

Following the crash, U.S. authorities temporarily closed the Rainbow Bridge and three other bridge crossings from western New York State to Ontario in Canada. In Toronto, police patrols were increased, and additional security measures were implemented for vehicles entering Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Kurt and Monica Villani had briefly stopped at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino before the accident occurred. Their intention was to attend a KISS concert in Toronto that evening.
