In a shocking and gruesome incident, the Odisha police have arrested a couple for the alleged murder and subsequent dismemberment of a 21-year-old woman. The dismembered body, which had been chopped into 30 pieces, was discovered in a forest near Murumdihi village under Gona panchayat in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.

The police swung into action following a complaint from the deceased woman’s grief-stricken parents. Acting swiftly, the police were able to recover the dismembered body on Saturday afternoon. The victim, identified as Tilabati Gond from Baghbeda village under Raighar block, had been missing since Wednesday evening. Concerned about their daughter’s unexplained absence, the parents lodged a formal complaint at the local police station on Thursday.

Aditya Sen, the Umerkote sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), provided further details about the heinous crime. He confirmed that the woman’s father positively identified the body from her face. The accused have been identified as Chandra Rout (27) and his wife from Muramdihi village.

According to the SDPO, the police apprehended Rout and his wife based on the complaint and subsequently interrogated them. During the interrogation, the couple confessed to the murder and dismemberment of the young woman. Shockingly, it was revealed that the motive behind the crime was a complicated love triangle.

Investigations have revealed that for the past two years, Gond had been involved in a romantic relationship with Rout, who was already married. The situation took a dark turn on Wednesday evening when Gond went to Rout’s house and demanded that he marry her. An intense altercation ensued between Rout, his wife, and the young woman. The situation quickly escalated as the couple began physically assaulting Gond. Tragically, the woman collapsed and died as a result of the assault.

In a chilling turn of events, the couple decided to dispose of the body by chopping it into multiple pieces. Utilizing a meat cleaver, they dismembered the young woman’s body before packing it into a styrofoam container. To further conceal their heinous crime, they buried the container in the soil and burned the victim’s clothes.

The discovery of the dismembered body came about due to the observant eye of a young man from Murumdihi village. He noticed blood at the base of a tamarind tree, which raised suspicion and led him to inform the villagers. The villagers, in turn, promptly reported the matter to the local police. Acting on this information, the police exhumed the buried body parts, bringing this horrifying crime to light.
