Accident – Death – Obituary News : Luxury Car Collides with Two-Wheeler, Resulting in Fatality and Injuries in Kolkata

Tragedy struck near Fort William’s South Gate in Kolkata on Sunday when a speeding luxury car collided with a two-wheeler, leading to the death of a 19-year-old youth and leaving two others injured, according to the police. The car involved in the accident was identified as a Mercedes, and the two individuals driving it, Imran Ali Mallick (28) and Faizan Rahi (28), both residents of the Park Street area, were subsequently arrested.

The incident took place as the accused duo was heading towards Hastings from Khidirpur, the police confirmed. Reports suggest that Faizan Ansari (19), Rizwan Ansari (22), and Atab Waris (16) were en route to a cricket match in a field in Maidan when the unfortunate accident occurred around 6:10 am.

“The three youths were not wearing helmets. As they were traveling, a Mercedes collided with their two-wheeler from behind. Subsequently, the three individuals fell to the ground. While Faizan Ansari lost his life at the scene, Rizwan and Atab were rushed to SSKM Hospital and later admitted to the hospital’s trauma care center,” revealed a police official.

The official further stated that Rizwan and Atab sustained multiple injuries, including head and leg injuries. Their condition is currently being closely monitored by medical professionals.

Imran Ali Mallick and Faizan Rahi, the two accused individuals, have been apprehended by the police. They have been remanded to police custody until December 9. The authorities allege that both individuals had consumed alcohol and narcotic substances. Additionally, they claim that the accused were taking turns driving the car, which has since been seized.

The arrested individuals now face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rash driving (section 279), culpable homicide not amounting to murder (section 304 (2)), attempt to commit culpable homicide (section 308), mischief (section 427), criminal conspiracy (section 120B), and section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The three victims hailed from Fatepur Road in Metiaburuj. The deceased was the sole son of his parents and was pursuing an undergraduate course at Hari Mohan Ghosh College.

In a concerning revelation, the traffic department data shows that between June 9 and December 31, 2022, a total of 3,291 individuals were caught riding motorcycles without helmets. In the Red Road/J&N Island Crossing area of Kolkata, where the compliance percentage for helmet usage stands at an impressive 99.36%, 1,114 people were caught commuting without helmets during the same period.

The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving. Authorities continue to emphasize the need for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such unfortunate accidents from recurring.
