James Jerome Adams Jr., 19, of Great Mills Indicted for Murder of Marcus Anthony Day

Accident – Death – Obituary News : UPDATE 11/25/2023: James Jerome Adams Jr., a 19-year-old resident of Great Mills, along with an adult who was previously a juvenile from Bushwood, have been indicted for their involvement in the murder of 26-year-old Marcus Anthony Day on April 4, 2023. Both individuals have been charged as adults, and at the time of the indictments, all three individuals were already incarcerated for unrelated matters. On November 22, 2023, Adams and the juvenile were served with their indictments while being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. The third incarcerated individual, who is currently in a corrections facility outside of St. Mary’s County, had a detainer lodged against them.

UPDATE 5/5/2023: A 15-year-old male juvenile from Lexington Park has been arrested by detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division for the murder of Marcus Anthony Day. The arrest took place in King George County, VA on Friday, May 5, 2023. The juvenile will be charged as an adult with First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in a Violent Crime, First-Degree Assault, Second-Degree Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor. Due to a recent change in Maryland law, the identity of the juvenile will not be released by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office until a waiver hearing is conducted to determine the jurisdiction of the case. Sheriff Steve Hall expressed gratitude to the King George County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Christopher Giles for their cooperation and assistance in the investigation.

4/5/2023: The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a report of shots fired in the parking lot of the Great Mills Sheetz located at the 20700 block of Old Great Mills Road on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 10:37 pm. Shortly after, deputies were informed of a victim with multiple gunshot wounds who had arrived at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Marcus Anthony Day from Leonardtown, was pronounced dead. The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Detective Andrew Burgess, who is leading the investigation, is urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
