Accident – Death – Obituary News : Kolkata’s prestigious Jadavpur University has recently taken a strict measure by issuing a notice that bans six students from entering the campus and hostel premises. The university authorities have accused these students of their alleged involvement in the unfortunate death of a first-year student back in August. The ban will remain in effect until they are legally acquitted, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations.

Tragically, the incident unfolded on the night of August 9, when a 17-year-old student fell from the balcony of his hostel. Following this tragic event, Jadavpur University formed a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. The committee’s findings revealed that the student had been subjected to severe ragging, which ultimately led to his untimely demise.

The six students who have been implicated in this incident have been identified as Deepshekhar Dutta, Monotosh Ghosh, Asif Afzal Ansari, Satyabrata Sarkar, Ankan Sarkar, and Arif. Currently, these accused individuals are in jail awaiting further legal proceedings. As a consequence of the university notice, they will be prohibited from accessing the campus and hostel facilities until they are cleared of all charges.

It is worth noting that Saurabh Chowdhury, another person linked to the case, was not included in the notice as he is no longer a student at Jadavpur University. The university’s registrar’s office has taken prompt action by disseminating the notification to all relevant departments, ensuring that the ban is upheld and enforced.

In response to the findings of the internal investigation committee, Jadavpur University has established an ‘anti-ragging squad’ under the guidance of the new interim vice-chancellor, Buddhadev Sahu. This squad aims to address and prevent any future incidents of ragging within the institution, promoting a safe and supportive environment for all students.

The recent ban serves as a stern reminder of the university’s commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of its student community. By taking decisive action against those allegedly involved in the unfortunate death of a fellow student, Jadavpur University sends a strong message that such acts will not be tolerated within its premises.
