Rajshahi, Bangladesh – In a devastating road accident on the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway, five individuals, including four members of a family, lost their lives when a truck collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. The incident occurred in Rajshahi’s Belpukur area on Saturday afternoon.

According to Jamirul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, all the victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The deceased have been identified as Sharmin (17), Parvin Begum (35), Ayub Ali Labu (33), Insab Ali, and auto-rickshaw driver Mokhles (45).

Sharmin, a student of Shah Makhdum College in Rajshahi, was traveling with her aunt, uncle, and grandfather from Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila. The family’s journey tragically ended in the fatal accident.

Another individual, Hridoy (18), sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

According to ADC Jamirul Islam, the collision occurred around 3:00 pm when the truck struck the three-wheeler from behind, causing it to fall into a nearby ditch. Subsequently, the truck veered off the road and collided with a roadside shop before also falling into the ditch.

The local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, and it is suspected that negligence on the part of the truck driver may have played a role.

Road accidents are a significant concern in Bangladesh, with poor road conditions and reckless driving being major contributing factors. The government has been urged to take stricter measures to ensure road safety and prevent such tragic incidents from occurring.
