Accident – Death – Obituary News : Court in Rajasthan Sentences Three People for Killing Businessman They Met on Dating Platform

A court in Jaipur, Rajasthan has handed down sentences to three individuals for the murder of a 28-year-old businessman. The victim had met one of the accused five years ago on an online dating platform. Sessions Judge Ajit Kumar Hinger delivered the verdict on Friday, stating that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to establish the facts of the case.

The incident occurred when the victim’s family failed to pay a ransom of Rs 10 lakh ($13,500) demanded by his Tinder date. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Priya, kidnapped the man and held him captive at her residence. When the victim’s family did not meet her demands, Priya stabbed him to death.

Prosecution counsel Sandeep Lohariya quoted the judge as saying, “The evidence presented by the prosecution proved that the accused have committed the crime.” Based on this evidence, the court convicted the three accused under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offense), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. They were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The accused, Priya, had entered into a relationship with the victim, Dushyant, in February 2018. However, both had concealed important facts from each other. Priya had interacted with Dushyant only with the intention of kidnapping him and extorting money. On the other hand, Dushyant had lied about being married and portrayed himself as a wealthy businessman from Delhi, using the fake name Vivan Kohli on the dating platform.

According to media reports, Priya, along with her accomplices Dikshant Kamra and Lakshya Walia, lured Dushyant to her place and kidnapped him. They then made a ransom call to Dushyant’s family, demanding Rs 10 lakh. However, during the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Dushyant had assumed a false identity.

After receiving a partial payment of Rs 3 lakh from Dushyant’s father, the accused used Dushyant’s debit card to withdraw Rs 20,000 from an ATM near Jaipur’s Nehru Udhyan. Fearing that their crime would be exposed, the accused killed Dushyant, dismembered his body, and placed the pieces in a suitcase, which they then dumped on a road in Delhi.

It was also discovered that both Priya and Dikshant had a criminal history. Priya had been arrested three times before, in 2014, 2016, and 2017, for breaking into an ATM machine. Dikshant had also been arrested once in Mumbai.

The court’s decision to sentence the accused to life imprisonment has brought some closure to the victim’s family, who have endured a traumatic ordeal. The case serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of online dating and the importance of exercising caution when building relationships in the digital space.
