A shocking incident took place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday morning as a 20-year-old man attacked a bus conductor with a cleaver following a dispute over ticket price. The accused, identified as Lareb Hashmi, later confessed to his offense in a video where he claimed to have attacked the conductor for “insulting Prophet Muhammad.” The police managed to arrest Hashmi after an encounter, during which he sustained a leg injury from a gunshot.

The Prayagraj Police reported that the altercation between Hashmi and the bus conductor, Harikesh Vishwakarma, occurred when they got into a disagreement over the ticket fare. The situation escalated quickly, and Hashmi, who is a first-year engineering student, brutally attacked Vishwakarma with a cleaver, causing severe injuries to his neck and other parts of his body.

After the attack, Hashmi fled the scene and sought refuge in a college where he recorded a video confessing to the crime. In the video, he accused the bus conductor of making blasphemous comments and insulting Prophet Muhammad. Notably, Hashmi can be seen holding the cleaver used in the attack and can be heard vowing that Vishwakarma will “definitely die” for allegedly abusing Muslims. He also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath in the video.

Meanwhile, a video captured from inside the bus shows Hashmi hastily leaving the vehicle while still holding the weapon. The bus driver, Mangla Yadav, described the sudden attack, saying, “I heard a sound and then stopped the bus.” Yadav and others rushed Vishwakarma to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

The Prayagraj Police managed to apprehend Hashmi at the college where he was hiding. However, when the police attempted to recover the weapon used in the crime, Hashmi fired at the officers. In response, the police retaliated, injuring Hashmi in the leg and subsequently arresting him. He is currently receiving treatment for his bullet wound at a local hospital.
