In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, a 20-year-old engineering student attacked a bus conductor with a cleaver following a dispute over the ticket fare. The accused, identified as Lareb Hashmi, allegedly confessed to his crime in a viral video, claiming that he attacked the conductor in retaliation for insulting Prophet Mohammed. The video shows Hashmi stating, “Vo Musalmaano ko gaali de raha tha, maine usko maara hai… Inshallah vo zaroor marega” (He was abusing Muslims so I’ve attacked him… he will definitely die).

After the brutal attack, Hashmi attempted to flee the scene, but the police managed to capture him after a confrontation, during which they shot him in the leg. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Harikesh Vishwakarma, suffered severe injuries to his neck and other body parts. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The incident occurred when Hashmi and Vishwakarma got into a heated argument over the ticket price. Hashmi, a first-year engineering student, brandished a cleaver and launched a vicious attack on the bus conductor. Following the assault, Hashmi fled the bus and sought refuge on a college campus nearby.

A purported video, recorded inside the college campus, surfaced on social media, in which Hashmi not only confesses to the crime but also proudly displays the cleaver used in the attack. Another video, captured from inside the bus, depicts the accused running on the road with the weapon in his hand.

Mangla Yadav, the bus driver, recalled the chaotic scene, stating, “Suddenly, there was an attack inside the bus. I heard a sound and then stopped the bus.” Yadav, along with other passengers, immediately rushed Vishwakarma to the hospital for urgent medical care.

The police swiftly apprehended Hashmi inside the college campus where he was hiding. However, as they accompanied him to recover the cleaver, the accused allegedly opened fire at the officers. In response, the police also fired, injuring Hashmi in the leg, leading to his subsequent arrest. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital under police custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Yamunanagar), Abhinav Tyagi, confirmed the arrest and stated, “After the incident, the accused was arrested by the police, and a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered. Further investigation is underway.”

Hashmi, a resident of Prayagraj’s Hajiganj area, was studying at the United Engineering College in the city. His father, Mohammed Yunus, is the owner of a poultry farm. The police continue to investigate the case to gather more evidence and determine the motive behind the attack.
