18-Year Old Mehakpreet Sethi Fatally Stabbed in Surrey: Suspect Charged with Second-Degree Murder

SURREY, BC – In a significant development, an 18-year-old man has been charged in relation to the tragic stabbing incident that took the life of 18-year-old Mehakpreet Sethi in 2022. Due to the suspect’s status as a Young Offender at the time of the crime, his identity has not been disclosed to the public.

The incident occurred on November 22, 2022, around 12:08 p.m., when the Surrey RCMP received a distressing report of a stabbing in the parking lot of Tamanawis Secondary School, situated in the 12600-block of 66 Avenue, Surrey. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mehakpreet Sethi, an 18-year-old resident of Surrey, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Despite the immediate response and best efforts of the Surrey RCMP, Sethi tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after being found. However, the swift action of law enforcement led to the apprehension of a 17-year-old suspect, who was identified by witnesses at the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took charge of the case and collaborated closely with the Surrey RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Service, and the BC Coroners Service.

One year later, on November 21, 2023, the BC Prosecution Service officially charged the suspect, now 18 years old, with second-degree murder in connection with the untimely death of Mehakpreet Sethi.
