Woman Sentenced to Decades in Prison for DUI Crash That Killed Two State Troopers and a Pedestrian

A young woman, Jayana Webb, aged 23 and hailing from Eagleville, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash on an interstate in Philadelphia last year. The tragic incident took the lives of two state troopers and a pedestrian. Webb appeared in a Philadelphia courtroom on Wednesday, where she admitted to three counts each of third-degree murder and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. As a result, she has been sentenced to spend 27 1/2 to 60 years behind bars.

The District Attorney, Larry Krasner, hailed the outcome as “a just resolution of one of the most shocking incidents of vehicular violence in recent memory.” This incident left the local community devastated, and the sentencing provides some measure of closure for the families affected by this tragedy.

The crash occurred in the early morning of March 2022 when Troopers Martin Mack III and Branden Sisca were attempting to guide a pedestrian to safety from the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Philadelphia’s sports stadiums. At that moment, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck all three individuals. Tragically, the troopers and the pedestrian, identified as 28-year-old Reyes Rivera Oliveras from Allentown, lost their lives at the scene.

Webb’s defense attorney, Michael Walker, shared with The Philadelphia Inquirer that his client, who is currently seven months pregnant, will be allowed to remain out of custody until she gives birth in February. Following the birth, she will have some time to bond with her child before reporting to prison. During the court proceedings, Webb expressed deep sorrow and offered her apologies to the families of the victims.

Walker further elaborated on Webb’s remorse, stating, “She had hoped that at some point in their lives they would be able to forgive her. She will never forgive herself. She suffers greatly because of what she did and recognizes that she is punished and has ruined a large portion of her life.”

Earlier court hearings shed light on Webb’s blood alcohol content, which was found to be twice the legal limit. Additionally, active components of marijuana were also detected in her system, according to prosecutors. The court also considered Webb’s social media activity, including a post made earlier that morning where she admitted to being stopped for driving at excessive speeds of “110 in a 50” mph zone. Authorities revealed that the troopers who pulled her over were redirected to assist Oliveras, who was apparently attempting to cross the highway. As they attempted to ensure his safety, Webb recklessly tried to overtake the parked state police SUV at high speed, resulting in the collision that claimed the lives of the troopers and the pedestrian.

The loss of Trooper Mack, 33, who enlisted in November 2014 and had been stationed at the Philadelphia barracks since 2015, and Trooper Sisca, 29, who joined the force in February of the previous year and graduated in August, has left a profound void in the law enforcement community. Colonel Robert Evanchick, the state police commissioner, expressed his grief, stating that both troopers had bright futures ahead of them before their lives were senselessly cut short.
