Woman Sentenced to Decades in Prison for DUI Crash that Killed Two State Troopers and Pedestrian

Accident – Death – Obituary News : PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A young woman has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and causing a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two state troopers and a pedestrian on an interstate in Philadelphia last year.

Jayana Webb, a 23-year-old resident of Eagleville, entered her guilty plea on Wednesday in a Philadelphia courtroom. She admitted to three counts each of third-degree murder and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence in the tragic crash that occurred in March 2022. As a result, Webb has been handed a sentence of 27 and a half to 60 years behind bars.

District Attorney Larry Krasner hailed the sentencing as “a just resolution of one of the most shocking incidents of vehicular violence in recent memory.”

According to police reports, Troopers Martin Mack III and Branden Sisca were attempting to guide a pedestrian to safety from the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Philadelphia’s sports stadiums when a speeding vehicle collided with all three individuals. The troopers, as well as the pedestrian identified as 28-year-old Reyes Rivera Oliveras from Allentown, tragically lost their lives at the scene of the accident.

Defense attorney Michael Walker informed The Philadelphia Inquirer that Webb, who is currently seven months pregnant, will be permitted to remain out of custody until she gives birth in February. Following the birth, she will also be granted some time to bond with her child before commencing her prison term.

Walker stated that his client expressed deep “sorrow” and extended her apologies to the families of the victims during the court proceedings. He also emphasized that Webb understands the gravity of her actions and is haunted by the knowledge that she has forever altered her own life.

Earlier court hearings delved into Webb’s blood alcohol content and her activity on social media. It was revealed that she had posted on social media earlier that morning, boasting about being stopped for speeding at an alarming rate of “110 in a 50” mph zone. Authorities disclosed that the troopers who pulled her over were abruptly redirected south to assist Oliveras, who was apparently attempting to cross the highway. As the troopers worked to remove him from harm’s way, Webb recklessly attempted to overtake the parked state police SUV at a high speed, resulting in the tragic collision.

Prosecutors revealed that Webb’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and traces of marijuana were also found in her system.

Trooper Mack, 33, had enlisted in November 2014 and was stationed at the Philadelphia barracks since 2015. Trooper Sisca, 29, had enlisted in February of the previous year and had just graduated in August.
