Alcohol Involved in Fatal Car Crash in Frenchtown Township, Michigan
Frenchtown Township, Michigan – A tragic car accident in Monroe County on Thursday evening claimed the life of a 54-year-old man. According to local authorities, alcohol was determined to be a contributing factor in the fatal collision.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:19 p.m. on November 23rd when the 54-year-old male driver, identified as Noel Smith from Newport, Michigan, was traveling westbound on Newport Road, just east of War Road, in his 2014 Ford Focus. Tragically, Smith veered past the center lane and into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Ford F-250 pickup truck.
Upon impact, Noel Smith, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time, was ejected from his vehicle. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the Ford F-250, identified as 39-year-old Nicole Herron, also a resident of Newport, was wearing her seatbelt during the collision. She was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition as of Friday morning.
Authorities have confirmed that alcohol played a significant role in the tragic accident. However, specific details regarding the level of impairment or any other circumstances relating to alcohol consumption were not disclosed. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the crash to gather additional information and determine the precise cause of the collision.
