Married Couple Identified as Victims in Rainbow Bridge Border Crossing Crash

The tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing, claiming the lives of two individuals, has been identified as a married couple.

In an official press release issued on Friday, the Niagara Falls Police Department revealed that the victims were 53-year-old Kurt P. Villani and his wife, 53-year-old Monica Villani, both residents of Grand Island, New York.

As the investigation continues, the Niagara Falls Police Department’s crash management unit is actively examining the details surrounding the crash, yet no further information has been disclosed at this time.

A video capturing the incident exhibits a white vehicle speeding at an alarming rate before colliding with a median and hurtling into the air, ultimately resulting in a devastating crash. Subsequently, the car and the nearby border crossing booth erupted in flames, as recounted by New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Reflecting on the shocking footage, Governor Hochul expressed her disbelief, stating, “The scene was so surreal that one could question whether it was generated by artificial intelligence. Witnessing the vehicle soaring high into the air followed by the crash, explosion, and subsequent fire was truly harrowing.”
