The Clark County District judge handed down a sentence of 20 years to life for the first-degree murder charge, and an additional consecutive term of one to 10 years for the attempted murder with a deadly weapon charge.
According to court records, Earl reached a plea deal with prosecutors on October 3, 2022, by pleading guilty but mentally ill.

The incident took place on June 23, 2022, within the psychiatric ward at UMC. Following the first attack, Earl then proceeded into the hallway and targeted another patient. However, correctional officers were able to apprehend him in his room before he could cause further harm.
