According to the police investigation, the accused, identified as K. Ganesh, a migrant worker, carried out the heinous act due to a family dispute that arose from an alleged dowry demand. Ganesh’s wife, K. Basanti Patra, had lodged a police complaint earlier, accusing her husband of dowry torture. This complaint had led to a temporary separation between the couple, but they had recently decided to reconcile and live together again.

“The couple was happy after their marriage and had a beautiful daughter. However, problems started to surface, leading to marital discord. The wife’s complaint about dowry torture had caused a rift between them, but they had recently started living together again,” revealed officials from the Kabisruyanagar police.

The accused, still harboring bitterness towards his wife, meticulously planned the murder. On September 26, Ganesh contacted several snake charmers using his father’s phone number. He convinced them that he needed a venomous snake for worship at a local Lord Shiva temple. Basanta Acharya, one of the snake charmers, provided Ganesh with a poisonous snake he had rescued from Bhaiga Sahi village.

Keeping the deadly reptile a secret at his residence, Ganesh waited for the opportune moment to carry out his sinister plan. On the night of October 6, he released the snake into the room where his wife and daughter were peacefully sleeping. Tragically, both mother and daughter were bitten by the snake, resulting in their instant death. The next morning, Ganesh informed his neighbors about the devastating loss he had suffered.

However, suspicions arose among the wife’s family members, prompting the father to file a police complaint. The family requested a thorough investigation into the case, suspecting foul play. During the subsequent interrogation, Ganesh confessed to the heinous crime, leaving the community stunned and horrified.

Following his confession, Ganesh was produced in a local court and is expected to face severe legal consequences for his actions. The incident has once again highlighted the issue of domestic violence and dowry-related disputes that continue to plague society, particularly in rural areas. It serves as a chilling reminder of the urgent need to address these deep-rooted issues and ensure the safety of women and children.

Authorities are now working towards providing psychological support to the grieving family while also reassuring the community that justice will be served..
