Unnao, Uttar Pradesh – In a shocking incident that unfolded on Friday, a young man was found hanged at the residence of a girl in Unnao district. The deceased, identified as 22-year-old Deepak, allegedly took his own life after facing rejection from the girl. The sequence of events leading to the tragedy began when Deepak, also known as Rajesh, arrived at the girl’s house in Bakshi Kheda village, situated within the jurisdiction of Hasanganj police station. It is believed that Deepak had been relentlessly pursuing the girl, who had previously filed a harassment case against him. This led to the young man spending three months in jail on charges of stalking.

On that fateful day, around 11:30 am, Deepak approached the rear entrance of the girl’s house and demanded her to open the door. When she refused, he resorted to making a grave threat – to end his own life by hanging himself. Fearing the worst, the girl immediately contacted her father, who was working in the fields nearby.

Upon the father’s arrival, they entered the house together, only to discover the lifeless body of Deepak hanging from a scarf. The distraught family immediately alerted the authorities, and the police were dispatched to the scene. The body was subsequently taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of the legal system in protecting victims of harassment. Despite serving a three-month jail term and participating in a panchayat (village council) aimed at resolving the matter, Deepak continued to harass the girl. It is evident that the system failed to rehabilitate the offender or deter him from further pursuing the girl.

Local police authorities, led by Inspector-in-charge Rajeshwar Tripathi, will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. They will also review the previous harassment case and the measures taken to address the issue. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of implementing stringent measures to prevent stalking and protect potential victims.

The local community is mourning the loss of a young life and grappling with the tragic consequences of unrequited love. Mental health professionals emphasize the need to address the emotional well-being of individuals facing rejection, as it can have severe consequences if left unaddressed.
