In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Odisha’s Ganjam district, a man has been apprehended by the police in connection with the tragic deaths of his wife and minor daughter due to a venomous snakebite.

The accused, identified as K Ganesh Patra, allegedly had an ongoing marital dispute with his wife, which ultimately led him to devise a sinister plan to end her life and that of their two-year-old daughter.

Investigations have revealed that Patra procured a venomous cobra from a snake charmer and intentionally released it into the room where his wife and daughter were present on October 7.

Tragically, the snake attacked the mother-daughter duo, inflicting fatal bites. They were immediately rushed to a local hospital, but despite the efforts of medical professionals, they were pronounced dead after a thorough medical examination.

Initially, the police had considered the deaths to be a result of an unfortunate snakebite incident. However, the course of the investigation took a different turn when the father-in-law filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused.

A police official involved in the investigation stated, “On that fateful night, the family members discovered the snake, swiftly killed it, and rushed the victims to the hospital where they were declared dead. The post-mortem report clearly indicated that their cause of death was indeed snakebite. We initiated our probe based on the allegations made by the deceased’s father. As we delved deeper, we uncovered evidence suggesting that K Ganesh Patra had procured the deadly reptile from the snake charmer. The charmer will also be subjected to questioning as part of our ongoing investigation.”

Following an extensive and meticulous investigation, the accused, K Ganesh Patra, was ultimately arrested by the police.

The investigation into this heart-wrenching case is ongoing, as the authorities delve further into the motive and circumstances surrounding the alleged crime.
