In a recent airstrike conducted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), a senior operative in Hamas’ naval forces was killed in the southern Gaza region. The IDF stated that Amar Abu Jalalah, identified as the commander of Hamas’ naval forces, was targeted and killed by fighter jets in Khan Yunis, the largest city in southern Gaza.

The IDF released a statement confirming the operation and describing Abu Jalalah as a significant figure in Hamas’ naval forces. The statement read, “Amar Abu Jalalah was a senior operative in Hamas’ naval forces and involved in directing several terror attacks by sea that were thwarted by the IDF.”

According to the IDF, the airstrike also resulted in the death of another Hamas naval operative. This operation marks another successful attempt by Israel to eliminate upper-level Hamas military operatives.

Earlier this week, a senior IDF official revealed that Israel believes it is making substantial progress in neutralizing key Hamas military personnel. The official, as reported by CNN, stated that an assessment suggests 24 battalions exist within the military wing of Hamas, with 10 of them experiencing significant setbacks since the onset of the war on October 7.

The IDF official highlighted that several battalions in the northern part of Gaza have lost more than four commanders, which accounts for approximately half of their senior leadership. This loss of commanders has significantly hampered Hamas’ ability to order counterattacks, as there are fewer personnel available to direct operations.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in a devastating human toll. The Hamas-run Health Ministry reported that more than 13,000 people in Gaza have lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes. In response, Israel has reported around 1,200 casualties caused by Hamas attacks on the southern region of the country in October.
