Businesswoman and Others Booked for Assaulting Dalit Man Over Salary Demand

Morbi, Gujarat – Police Register Case against Businesswoman and Accomplices

Police in Morbi city, Gujarat, have registered a case against a businesswoman and at least six others for allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old Dalit man. The victim, Nilesh Dalsaniya, had worked for the woman’s company for a fortnight before the incident took place. The assault included forcing Dalsaniya to apologize by holding the businesswoman’s footwear in his mouth after he demanded his salary. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and a complaint was lodged by Dalsaniya, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on Thursday.

The woman, identified as Vibhuti Patel, also known as Raniba, is the owner of Raniba Industries Pvt Ltd. She hired Dalsaniya, who works in tiles marketing, on a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 in early October. However, on October 18, she abruptly terminated his employment without providing a clear answer regarding his pending salary for the 16 days he had worked. Patel subsequently stopped responding to his calls.

Violent Confrontation at the Office

On Wednesday evening, when Dalsaniya, accompanied by his brother Mehul and neighbor Bhavesh, went to Patel’s office to discuss the unpaid salary, Vibhuti Patel’s brother, Om Patel, arrived at the scene with several accomplices. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratipalsinh Zala, Om Patel and his associates assaulted the trio.

The FIR states that Vibhuti Patel herself slapped Dalsaniya and dragged him to the terrace of the commercial complex. The accused, including Om Patel, Parikshit Patel (the manager), and six to seven unidentified men, proceeded to beat Dalsaniya with belts, and also kicked and punched him. The complaint further alleges that Vibhuti Patel forced Dalsaniya to place her footwear in his mouth as a form of apology for demanding his rightful salary. Additionally, she threatened to have him killed if he ever returned to the Ravapar Crossroad area.

The attackers even filmed a video in which they coerced Dalsaniya into confessing that he had come to Vibhuti Patel’s office to extort money. Following the incident, Dalsaniya was taken to Morbi civil hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Legal Action and Investigation

The accused, including Vibhuti Patel, Om Patel, and the unidentified men, have been booked on charges of assault, criminal intimidation, rioting, and under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratipalsinh Zala. The investigation into the case is currently underway, and no arrests have been made thus far.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of discrimination and violence against Dalit individuals in India. It is essential for authorities to take swift action to ensure justice for Nilesh Dalsaniya and to send a strong message against such acts of caste-based violence and oppression.
